Pond Dye Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Is the dye harmful to aquatic life including both fish and plants, humans, or other animals?
A. No, the dye is non-toxic and non-hazardous to aquatic life, humans and other animals. In order to ensure this we had our dye products tested at an outside testing facility on aquatic organisms and the results were conclusive. It would take over 1,000 times the recommended amount of dye to negatively impact aquatic life.
Q. Does the dye make the pond look unnatural?
A. "Solaron Blue APG Liquid” is a greener shade of blue while “Solaron Blue APG” is a royal blue shade (See Picture Below). While our dyes are specifically formulated for use in ponds and lakes there are many factors that can influence the final color of the body of water such as pH, turbidity (muddiness), chemicals (such as chlorine) and microorganisms such as planktonic algae. In producing the colors in our product line we field test numerous formulations for environmental safety, lightfastness, solubility and overall appearance before selecting the final dyes. Ultimately it is up to the owner of the pond to determine whether or not the color looks more or less “natural”. Furthermore, it is suggested that you sample the product in an approved area to determine whether or not the color is acceptable to the owner of the water body.![]()
